In 2024 the City of Cape Town piloted the use of instream aeration to address water quality issues in the Milnerton Lagoon, based on the recommendations of the 2023 Milnerton Lagoon Water Quality Remediation Plan.
To assess the efficacy of this method, Infinity undertook an intensive four-month monitoring programme, to assess water quality in real time upstream and downstream of the aeration trial. We installed a series of sensors with telemetry devices in the lagoon, capable of measuring oxygen and other water quality parameters continuously.
Working with water quality specialists, we conducted statistical analyses on this data, resulting in a clear set of recommendations for the City.
